Jacqui Callis studied Fine Art in Leeds in the late 70s before moving to London to pursue an alternative music career. She has also worked as a multimedia website designer in London and Cornwall and delivered art/ICT projects. In 2010 she founded the not-for-profit, Redruth-based arts group APEX ARTS which used creativity as a form of advocacy for the neurodiverse. APEX ARTS took part in both Inland Art contemporary art festivals in Redruth and ran for 10 years which included a 3 year project with Plymouth Mind entitled The Art of Living Creatively.
Jacqui has a studio at Krowji and her visual work explores our connection to creativity and questions what we traditionally consider as reality with content that is largely symbolic. Recently she has been working on a larger scale and timescale, incorporating sound. Into Form is an example of some of this work which is as much defined by idea as media. Jacqui has also collaborated on a few art films providing the sound design and also plays and sings regularly around Cornwall in her hillbilly band Cahooty.
